A mixture of 19,17 g (65 mmol) dibutyltin dimethoxide and 5,86 g (65 mmol) abs. 1,4-butanediol was heated with stirring up to 170°C. The liberated methanol was distilled off continuously. After cooling, the liquid product was purified by distillation in vacuo (0,Ol Torr) at 170°C over a shortpath apparatus. Yield 80%.
